Six years ago – on June 24, 2010 – I was diagnosed with colon cancer. I survived, and consider every day a precious gift. Not everyone diagnosed is as lucky as I have been. Colon cancer is now being diagnosed in much younger people. This summer will be my fifth year raising funds for the Colon Cancer Alliance through its Undy 5000 5K Run/Walk Event. (See www.ccalliance.org for more information.) CCA is on the front line in the fight against this preventable yet very deadly disease. CCA raises awareness of the need for screening, helps provide colonoscopies and treatment for those who cannot afford it, offers support for patients and their families, and cares for all of those affected by this terrible cancer on every possible level.

In addition to raising funds for CCA, I have joined its Buddy Program and have the honor to help those going through surgery, treatment and recovery of colon cancer in any way that I can. Just by listening to someone who needs to share their feelings, offering advice, or letting them know what to expect while going through this very challenging time, I have been able to bring some small amount of peace and comfort to someone in great need. This past September, I lost my mother to colon cancer and I dedicate my race and fundraising to her memory.

To donate, please go to www.ccalliance.org. Click Run/Walk Events. Click on Donate then “Donate to a Participant.” Once in the search tab, plug in my name (Gregory Landes) and it should allow you to donate on my behalf. I am grateful to be able to raise awareness and funds in the battle against this disease and grateful to all of you, my colleagues, for your support.
