‘Why we joined the union’

Volume 117, No. 4April, 2017

A New York native, I moved down to Nashville five years ago just before it really started to blow up. Lured by its deep history and culture, I felt like I needed a change of pace to help broaden my perspective as an artist. Working in and out of Music City, I never felt like there was a strong need to join the AFM, but that has all changed. Now back in New York, I know that being a Local 802 member gives me access to a network of the most dedicated and professional musicians in the world. I’ve learned that breaking out of my comfort zone and putting myself out there has helped me land some of my favorite gigs, including twice performing on NBC’s Today show with country music duo Haley and Michaels. I’m equally comfortable on the piano and Hammond B3, and my goal is to work more in the theatre scene and perform at the leading NYC clubs.
