TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2016

Meeting called to order at 11:07 a.m. by Financial Vice President Olcott. Present: Recording Vice President Schwartz, Executive Board members Brandford, Burridge, Cutler, Dougherty, Hyde, Sharman, Suttmann, Assistant to the President Bond. President Gagliardi absent. A moment of silence was observed in memory of Melbourne “Bob” Cranshaw, Local 802 Executive Board member, iconic Jazz artist and long-time union activist. Meeting resumed. Minutes from November 1, 2016 reviewed. It was moved and seconded to approve the minutes from November 1, 2016 as corrected. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously. Assistant to the President Bond announced that Marlena Fitzpatrick-Garcia had assumed her new position as Theatre Business Rep.

Financial Vice President Olcott presented a request from Trinity Baroque Orchestra to utilize day rates for rehearsals on the evenings of November 17 and 21, 2016 and on April 5, 2017. It was moved and seconded to approve the request from Trinity Baroque Orchestra, on the condition that no musicians will be penalized should they be unavailable for the proposed rehearsals. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Olcott reported on the expiration of the Local 802 Public Service promulgated agreement and presented an updated schedule of rates for Public Service wages and benefits for the approval of the Executive Board. It was moved and seconded to approve the updated schedule of rates for Public Service performances pending an adjustment to the rates for mileage. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Olcott presented a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Local 802 and American Symphony Orchestra. President Gagliardi present at 11:34 and assumed the chair. It was moved and seconded to approve the MOA between Local 802 and American Symphony Orchestra pending ratification by the bargaining unit. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Gagliardi reported on the status of a strike by members of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Discussion held.

Gagliardi presented a request for a donation from New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health (NYCOSH). Discussion held.

Gagliardi announced the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between The Broadway League, Inc., Buena Vista Theatrical Group Ltd. d/b/a Disney Theatrical Productions and American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada for Pamphlet B Touring Theatrical Musicals. Discussion held.

Gagliardi reported on preparations for future negotiations between Local 802 and Metropolitan Opera. Discussion held.

Gagliardi discussed matters pertaining to filling the vacancy on the Local 802 Executive Board in the wake of the death of Bob Cranshaw. Discussion held.

Recording Vice President Schwartz reported on his attendance at the Jewish Labor Committee 45th Annual Labor Awards Dinner on November 14, 2016 at the Roosevelt Hotel. Discussion held. Schwartz reported on the meeting of the Executive Board Public Relations Subcommittee on November 15, 2016. Discussion held. Schwartz reported on the status of negotiations between Local 802 and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Discussion held. Schwartz reported on the status of negotiations between Local 802 and Avatar Recording Studios. Discussion held.

Schwartz reported on matters pertaining to the placement of New York University (NYU) on the AFM Unfair List due to the school’s unwillingness to enter into agreements to cover members employed for recording sessions and performances at NYU. Discussion held.

Schwartz presented a request from a member for a leave of absence from a Broadway show. It was moved and seconded to approve the leave of absence. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Senior Recording Department Representative Sheldon present. Sheldon presented a Limited Pressing Schedule B agreement with Sh-K-Boom Records for the cast album recording of “God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater.” Sheldon excused. It was moved and seconded to approve the agreement with Sh-K-Boom Records. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Principle Business Rep Weeks present. Weeks presented a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between Local 802 and Seven String Ltd. Weeks excused. It was moved and seconded to approve the CBA with Seven String Ltd., pending the correction of the name of the Local 802 Musicians Health Fund. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

Theatre Business Rep Fitzpatrick-Garcia present. Discussion held. Fitzpatrick-Garcia excused.

Senior Business Rep Fisher present. Fisher presented a request from North/South Consonance, Inc. to utilize Public Service scales for rehearsals and performances on January 5, 6, & 8, 2017; February 16,17, & 19, 2017; and March 13 & 14, 2017. Fisher excused.

Political and Communications Director Carroll present. Carroll reported on an upcoming article in City and State magazine covering media and entertainment and proposed that Local 802 purchase an advertisement and contribute an op-ed piece to that week’s edition. Carroll excused. It was moved and seconded to approve the creation of an op-ed piece and to purchase a half-page advertisement at a cost of $2,000 with such expenditure to come from the Public Relations budget. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.

It was moved and seconded to approve the request from North/South Consonance Inc. to utilize Public Service scales as proposed. Discussion held. Motion carried unanimously.
