Teachers’ Registry & Musicians Referral Service

NEW! Musician Referral Service Online Directory

Local 802’s musician referral service online directory is open for enrollment to all active Local 802 members! Take advantage of this new promotional tool. It’s like making your own webpage – for FREE!

Promote your services on two different profile pages: individual and band/ensemble. Create an “Individual” profile page to promote your work as a teacher, performer, copyist, arranger or recording artist. You can also create a “Band/Ensemble” page to promote your band, chamber groups or large ensemble.

NewYorkMusicians.com is intended to function as a promotional tool for union members. Any work that is referred through the site must be filed on appropriate union contracts. This stipulation is advertised on the site to potential clients, and is also a caveat to enrolling in the service, as specified in the “Referral Service General Rules Artist Agreement” and the “Website Rules and Regulations Agreement.”

Before any member’s profile may become publicly viewable, both of these Agreements must be filed with the Musician Referral Service.  To file, please download, fill in required information, check the electronic signature box, then return both forms to: referral@local802afm.org

There are no fees for creating a NewYorkMusicians.com profile – just the standard 3.5% Local 802 work dues will apply for any engagement procured through the website service.

For more information or assistance filing your work, please read What To Do When You Get A Referral.

The official launch of NewYorkMusicians.com will take place when enrollment meets the website functionality threshold. Promotion and marketing to attract potential clients will begin after the launch.

Times Square Alliance’s Outdoor Music Series
Broadway Buskers “Out of the Pit”

The Times Square Alliance’s outdoor music series “Broadway Buskers: Out of the Pit” completed a successful five-month run of weekly music performances for the 2017 season. Every week from mid-April through late-September, Local 802 musicians braved the elements to take a turn in the spotlight, entertaining locals and tourists alike in the new Times Square pedestrian plazas.

This year, the “Out of the Pit” concert series employed a total of 18 soloists and 12 duo acts, spotlighting Local 802 musicians from Broadway orchestra pits. More than $11,000 in wages was earned by all the musicians combined, including an additional $1,500 in health and $1,000 in pension. The program was a partnership between Local 802 and the Times Square Alliance, with financial support provided by the Alliance.

The weather made the performance schedule challenging as this year was one of the stormiest and wettest in recent memory. The musicians can attest to this, as 12 out of the 52 scheduled performances had to be postponed, with a few performers needing to be rescheduled multiple times before capturing a sunny afternoon.

The Times Square Alliance was thrilled with all of our performers, expressing appreciation for the high musical caliber and professionalism demonstrated by Local 802 members. A contract with the Times Square Alliance for the 2018 season is still pending. More information will be released as it becomes available.
