THEATRE DEPARTMENT
BACK TO DEPARTMENTS MAIN MENU
The Theatre Department of Local 802, along with the Contract Administration
Department, is responsible for the union's collective bargaining agreements
with Broadway, off-Broadway and other area theatrical producers. The department
operates under the direction of Local 802 President Mary
Landolfi. The department's staff includes Assistant to the President
Joel LeFevre, Theatre Sick Pay and Hospitalization Fund Administrator
Gloria McCormick
and Theatre Business Representative Marisa Friedman.
Broadway
The union's single largest collective bargaining agreement is with the League
of American Theatres and Producers, covering shows produced by League members
and shows produced in the Broadway theatres owned by the Shubert, Nederlander
and Jujamcyn organizations. Nearly identical agreements have been reached
with Livent (U.S.) Inc. (now part of SFX Entertainment), and Buena Vista
Theatrical Ventures Inc. (Disney). All of these agreements expire on March
2, 2003.
Lincoln Center Theatres
Theatrical productions in the Lincoln Center theatres - the Vivian Beaumont and Mitzi Newhouse theatres - are covered by individual production agreements.
Off-Broadway
Local 802 has ongoing collective bargaining agreements with the Manhattan Theatre Club, the Public Theatre, the Roundabout Theatre, Playwrights Horizons, the Jewish Repertory Theater, the York Theatre Company and the Helen Hayes Performing Arts Center in Nyack. Individual production agreements are negotiated for all other off-Broadway theatres. Local 802 has been successful in achieving these agreements with the help and cooperation of musicians. The earlier the union learns about plans for an off-Broadway production, the more likely it is that a decent agreement can be negotiated. If you get called to work in an off-Broadway production, you should contact the Theatre Department at Local 802 immediately.
Radio City Music Hall
The Radio City Music Hall Orchestra has its own collective bargaining agreement
with RCMH Entertainment (now a division of Madison Sqaure Garden). The agreement
covers theatrical productions in RCMH, primarily the Christmas Spectacular.
Madison Square Garden
An agreement covering theatrical productions in the Theatre at Madison Square Garden has been in place for the last several years. So far, MSG has produced A Christmas Carol and The Wizard of Oz under the terms of that agreement.
Broadway Touring Shows
Touring theatrical productions are covered by the American Federation of Musicians "Pamphlet B" contract. That agreement is negotiated and enforced by the AFM's Touring and Booking Department. They can be reached at (212) 869-1330, ext. 231. If you get called to work on a nonunion tour or if you are not sure of the tour's union status, call the Local 802 Theatre Department. All inquiries are confidential.
Workshops and Readings
Collective bargaining agreements covering workshops and readings are negotiated on a production-by-production basis. Local 802 has a standard contract form that applies to this work. If you get called to do a workshop or reading, you should contact the Theatre Department immediately.
