ARE YOU 802?

"Are You 802?" booklet now available for download. Click image for instructions.

Welcome to the Local 802 web site. Local 802 is the largest local union of professional musicians in the world. Our members live or work in New York City, Nassau and Suffolk counties, New York. Our mission, simply put, is to fight for the interests and well being of the musicians employed in New York's music and entertainment industries. We do that through organizing and collective bargaining as well as through legislative and political action.

Our members include the orchestral musicians who perform at Lincoln Center, the Broadway pit musicians, the freelance musicians who perform in the many other musical venues in and around New York, the jazz artists who perform in our city's world-famous jazz clubs, hotel, club date and cabaret musicians, recording musicians, orchestrators, arrangers and copyists, as well as teaching artists and the musicians who work in the rock, blues and contemporary music scenes. New York City is the live music capital of the world, and the artists who make it so are members of Local 802.

We are a part of the 100,000-member American Federation of Musicians, which unites musicians across the United States and Canada. We are also a part of the 14-million-member AFL-CIO. As trade unionists, we believe that workers everywhere have far more in common than whatever issues may divide us. We firmly believe that "an injury to one is an injury to all." As musicians, we are dedicated to the preservation and promotion of live music and music education.

If you are a professional musician we invite and encourage you to join. If you are simply interested in music or in our union, we invite you to explore our web site.
