MANAGING THE UPS AND DOWNS OF THE MUSIC BUSINESS

MusiCares, in partnership with The Actors’ Fund of America and Local 802’s Musicians’ Assistance Program, is sponsoring a joint program entitled “Managing the Ups and Downs of the Music Business” on Tuesday, May 27th. The program will consist of a panel of professionals who will discuss key strategies for managing the personal, professional and financial challenges inherent in making a life in the music industry.

Solidarity

BOYCOTT BACH TRUMPETS!

Workers at the Bach trumpet plant in Elkhart, Indiana have been on strike for more than a year. These workers are represented by UAW Local 364.

Rather than provide a fair contract, the company — which is owned by Steinway Musical Instruments— has threatened to move some of the work overseas.

TINA HAFEMEISTER FUND

Over the years, many of us at Local 802 have been the recipients of invaluable assistance from Tina Hafemeister during her tenure on the Executive Board of Local 802, as financial vice-president and as supervisor of the Music Preparation Department. Now, unfortunately, Tina is in serious need of some help from us. She is fighting a devastating illness, is unable to work, and is trying to provide and care for her young daughter, who is also seriously ill.

THEATRICAL SHOWCASE RULES AND REGULATIONS

ACTORS' FUND SOCIAL SERVICES

The Actors' Fund's Social Services offer comprehensive programs designed to meet the critical needs of entertainment professionals throughout their lives. Social workers provide crisis intervention, individual and family needs assessments, and develop long-term plans which include ongoing support, education, information and referrals.

MUSICIANS' ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

The Musicians' Assistance Program (MAP) is a service provided by Local 802 for its members and their families, and it's administered by the Actors' Fund. MAP assists members in the hope that they may perform with maximum artistry and productivity with minimim interruption to their work. Services include professional consultation and referral for personal, career, substance abuse, family and relationship problems.

INSTRUMENTS ALLOWED AS AIRPLANE CARRY-ONS

The Transportation Security Administration has issued an official letter allowing musical instruments as carry-on baggage, over and above regular carry-on limits. Musicians planning to fly with their instruments should carry this letter with them. Click here to download (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader).
