The Swing Street Orchestra
The Swing Street Orchestra is a dance band with a rare ability:
"It provides stirring jazz and dance tempos without compromising either
one," wrote Stuart Troup in New York Newsday. Swing Street is also unique
in its ability to offer all the excitement of popular swing music for
half the cost of most big bands. The band provides "a remarkable scaling
down of the Basie big band arrangement, with Swing Street's seven pieces
capturing many of the subtle sonic details of the big band's performance,
from the ebbing and surging saxophones to the trumpet flutter at the
grand finale"[George Kanzler, Newark Star Ledger]. "Typically, big band
music requires at least sixteen players," said bandleader and trumpeter
Barry Bryson. "But we've orchestrated hundreds of big band tunes -such
as Satin Doll, In The Mood and Take The A-Train - especially for this
smaller group." These creative musical arrangements allow even the seven-piece
ensemble to produce the full drama and fun as well as the great sound
of a much larger band. And as Kanzler wrote, "Not only are the musicians
all committed to playing the music well, they're also dedicated to making
it sound fresh and interesting too." According to Bryson, "The objective
behind Swing Street is to allow people with limited space or budget
to include this ever popular music in their parties and events."Swing
Street consists of trumpet, trombone, alto and tenor saxophones, guitar,
string bass, drums and vocals; the band provides all sound and electrical
equipment as necessary, and can also perform without amplification.
For the last fifteen years, Swing Street has been getting crowds dancing
throughout the New York City Area.
