CALL TO ACTION FOR TENANTS’ RIGHTS

Join us on Valentine’s Day in Albany to fight for tenants’ rights! RSVP HERE!

A vast majority of Local 802  members are renters, and tenants are always at a huge disadvantage when they go up against their landlords in court.  Local 802 has officially signed on as a supporter of the “Right to Counsel” bill that has already been introduced in the New York legislature (A7570/S6678). If passed, the law would guarantee every tenant across New York State the right to a lawyer if facing eviction.

Landlords are suing over 270,000 New Yorkers for eviction. Our community members face potential homelessness and displacement in the winter, and the majority of them will have to navigate their cases without representation in housing court. That’s why we need state leadership to pass and fund Statewide Right to Counsel (A1493/S2721) and pass Winter Eviction Moratorium legislation (S1403)!

To make sure legislators hear these demands loud and clear, we’re going up to Albany on February 14th for our platform launch and day of action: TENANT LOVE + POWER!
