WESTBURY MUSIC FAIR

Local 802 settled a dispute with Westbury Music Fair over cancellation of an engagement by Johnny Mathis scheduled for last March 8-9. The $7,500 settlement represents wages and benefits for 26 musicians who were canceled one day before the engagement when Mathis became ill.

The contract between Local 802 and Westbury Music Fair allows for cancellation of less than two weeks by mutual consent due to illness or other emergencies. Local 802 did not agree to the last minute cancellation and filed a grievance against Westbury. At a Nov. 2 arbitration hearing the parties reached a settlement for equal distribution of the $7,500 no later than Dec. 31.

The union was represented by Long Island Regional Director Bob Gulluscio and 802 attorney Harvey Mars.
