A brief note about the Local 802 Musicians Health Fund

Volume 122, No. 6June, 2022

Martha Hyde

The Local 802 Musicians Health Fund continues to face challenges from the Covid shutdown. Income from employers was higher than expected and claims payouts were in line with what was expected, but because the fund’s reserves are all but gone, it is not in a good position to weather another crisis. For this reason, the trustees have appointed a subcommittee to analyze the tools available to us to protect the fund while trying to minimize the financial burden on musicians. The level of benefits offered in Recovery Plan A are unlikely to be improved because the fund cannot afford it. Moreover, it may be necessary to take further steps to lower costs and/or increase income which always involves some sacrifice. We will update you with specifics once the subcommittee has studied the situation and made a proposal.
