A tribute to Mary Helen Rowen

Volume 122, No. 8September, 2022

Mary Helen Rowen, 76, died on Oct. 1, 2021. Ms. Rowen learned to play the violin at an early age and attended the prestigious High School of Performing Arts. She earned a B.A. degree from Barnard College and a Ph.D in musicology from Columbia University and taught music at City University. Her career path took a turn when she became interested in law and earned a law degree. She was hired by the IRS, where she worked as an estate tax attorney for over 35 years. However, she spent most of her free time with the violin and was still an avid chamber music player, playing regularly in New York and in several summer programs. She is survived by her loving brother Louis, and is greatly missed by her family, friends and colleagues.
