John Austin ClarkI joined Local 802 immediately when I knew I was relocating to New York City. Being a part of a union is an important aspect of a professional musician’s livelihood and I wanted to be as resourceful as possible with all of the networking opportunities at my fingertips. My goals in New York City are to satisfy both passions of my musical palette: music-directing musical theatre productions and nurturing my period ensemble Bourbon Baroque. Both of these styles position me as a leader behind the keyboard, a place where I feel most at home. My favorite gig to date was directing Stephen Sondheim’s “Sweeney Todd” with an orchestra of friends. My principal instruments are the piano and historical keyboards, including the harpsichord and portativ.
