Allegro Wins Three National Awards

For the first time ever, Allegro has won awards at the national level.

This year Local 802 entered the journalistic excellence contest sponsored by the International Labor Communications Association. Allegro has won many awards in the past from the local New York chapter of this organization.

Members of this organization include labor publications published in the U.S. and Canada.

Allegro won the following awards:

  • First place in the country: Allegro editor Mikael Elsila won the Saul Miller Award for best collective bargaining story among local unions for his story, “Broadway Musicians Take a Stand.”
  • Second place in the country: best local union newspaper overall (the general excellence award).
  • Third place in the country: best use of graphics in a local union newspaper.
