Bylaw Change Proposal

AFM Convention Delegates: Local 802 Representation

Whereas Local 802 currently holds six seats at the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) convention, one of which is reserved by default for the President. In recent election cycles, delegate positions have been filled without competition, and often, elected delegates have been unable to attend the convention. Notably, in the 2024 election cycle, all five delegate seats were uncontested, and no candidates ran for the five alternate delegate positions.

Delegates play a crucial role by bringing important issues affecting Local 802 to the convention floor. Given this responsibility, knowledgeable and committed representatives must attend. The three named officers—who are deeply familiar with the Local’s priorities and challenges—should ensure consistent and informed representation. This change will still reserve three seats for rank and file musicians as well as five seats for alternates, but will strengthen Local 802’s voice and guarantee that key issues are effectively advocated during the convention.

Therefore, be it resolved that as of the next scheduled election of Local 802 officers, the elected Recording Vice President and the elected Financial Vice President, by virtue of their offices, will also be designated to serve as delegates to the AFM convention.

Article 1.Section 2. (m)  in the event that the President is a member of the International Executive Board then the Recording Vice-President by virtue of their office shall fill the vacancy as a Delegate to the A.F. of M. Convention. They shall, by virtue of their office, be one of the Delegates to the A.F.M. Convention unless they are a member of the International Executive Board of the A.F.M.

Article 1. Section 3 (l) They shall, by virtue of their office, be one of the Delegates to the A.F.M. Convention unless they are a member of the International Executive Board of the A.F.M.

Submitted by Local 802 Financial Vice President Karen Fisher for the June 2026 General Membership Meeting

The Local 802 Executive Board has reported this resolution favorably.
