A tribute to Don Gladstone

Volume 121, No. 10November, 2021

Don Gladstone, a bassist and a member of Local 802 in the 1970s, 80s and 90s, died on May 26, 2020. His wife Phyllis submitted this tribute to Don:

Don Gladstone was an upright and electric bass player. He played with Mike McGovern (from Jay Black and the Americans), among many others. His superb ears and technique made him one of the finest bass players ever to walk the stage. His scat singing and his ability to make the bass talk with every note he played give me joy when we we lived in New York. When we moved to North Carolina, Don played more jazz with the same love and appreciation of music. Don Gladstone was the finest man I ever had the honor of knowing.
