A tribute to Eva Kulm

Eva K. Kulm, 75, a pianist and music copyist, died last Sept. 20, 2021. She was born on September 12, 1946 in Krakow, Poland, where she studied piano at the conservatory. After emigrating to the United States in the late 1970s, she worked for Paul McCartney’s publishing company. She joined Local 802 in 1982 and was soon recruited as a music copyist by Mathilde Pincus of Chelsea Music where she worked on hundreds of Broadway shows and met arranger and composer Joe Gianono, also a member of Local 802; they were married for 24 years. Ms. Kulm worked with many celebrated artists, including Michel Camilo and the Paul Taylor Dance company, and she served as the supervising music copyist for the Broadway musical “Rent.” During the final year of her life, Ms. Kulm lived with her ex-husband Joe, who cared for her as she suffered from ALS. Besides Joe, she is survived by her sisters Kristine and Anna and her nephew Peter.
