NOTICE OF LOCAL 802 ELECTIONS

Local 802’s election of officers, Trial Board members, delegates and alternate delegates will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018, for a term of office beginning January 1, 2019.

The offices open for election are: President, Financial Vice-President, Recording Vice-President, nine (9) Executive Board members, nine (9) Trial Board members, five (5) delegates to the AFM convention, three (3) alternate delegates to the AFM convention, two (2) delegates to the New York City Central Labor Council, two (2) delegates to the New York State Federation of Labor Convention, and one (1) delegate to the United Hebrew Trades.

In-person voting will be conducted between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. at Local 802’s New York office, 322 West 48th Street, New York, NY 10036, and between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the West Side YMCA, 5 West 63rd Street New York, NY 10023.

Members may vote by absentee ballot if they request an absentee ballot by October 15, 2018 and are otherwise eligible to vote in the election. Members must request absentee ballots in writing from the office of the Recording Vice-President. Requests sent by mail should be addressed: Attention: Absentee Ballot Request, Local 802, 322 West 48th Street, New York, NY 10036. Email requests for absentee ballots should be sent to the Executive Secretary of the Recording Vice-President Maureen Cupid or the Recording Vice-President Andy Schwartz. Members should include their card numbers on requests for absentee ballots. Completed absentee ballots must be received by the Election Firm no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, 2018. Instructions for voting by absentee ballot will be printed on the ballot itself.

The term of office shall run for three (3) years, and candidates who receive a plurality of votes cast for an office shall be declared elected. In the event that there is no more than one nominee for a Local 802 elected office (or no more than nine nominees for Executive Board or Trial Board) by the close of nominations, such nominee(s) shall be deemed elected.

Eligibility requirements to nominate, vote and run for office are contained in the Local 802 Election Rules. The Rules are posted on Local 802’s website; members may also email the Recording Vice-President Andy Schwartz to request a copy of the Rules.

One hundred (100) members in good standing may nominate candidates. Nomination forms are available in the Recording Vice-President’s office on or after Sept. 17, 2018. Nomination forms must be filed with the Recording Vice-President by Oct. 15, 2018.

ALLEGRO: Each candidate may submit a 100-word statement and photograph that will be printed in the November issue of Allegro. Candidates must e-mail their statements and photographs to Allegro editor Mikael Elsila no later than 5 p.m. on Oct. 18, 2018. Candidates are encouraged to submit their photos and statements as early as possible. Both the 100-word limit and the Oct. 18 deadline will be strictly enforced. Candidates should consult the Local 802 Election Rules for the complete rules governing candidate statements and photos.
