Theatre Department Roundup

Volume CXI, No. 1January, 2011

It’s contract time. Our agreement with the Roundabout Theatre expired on Dec. 4, and we’re in the middle of negotiating a new agreement. The theatres that are covered under this contract include Studio 54, the Stephen Sondheim, American Airlines and the Laura Pels.

We recently negotiated a two-year contract renewal with the Irish Repertory Theatre, which features a 3 percent wage increase for musicians in each year of the agreement. “A Child’s Christmas in Wales in Concert” is currently playing there through Jan. 2.

Finally, producers for both “Wallenberg” and “Newsical the Musical” signed our Off Broadway Commercial Area Standards for those productions.

“Wallenberg,” which closed Nov. 21, chronicles the life of Raoul Wallenberg, the Swedish humanitarian, who rescued Jews during World War II. It played with seven musicians at the White Plains Performing Arts Center. Since the musicians were covered by a Local 802 agreement but the venue was outside our local, we split the work dues with AFM Local 38-398 (Westchester), which controls that jurisdiction.
