‘Why we joined the union’

Volume 118, No. 6June, 2018

Damion Corideo

I’ve been touring with Cirque du Soleil for the past six years. It’s been a beautiful and educational experience and I’ll never forget all the countries I visited and people I met. But now I’m happy to re-join Local 802 because it’s a strong and principled union that puts its members’ interests and rights first. I’m currently reconnecting with friends and former colleagues and starting to organize different bands with aspects of Senegalese, Mali, Moroccan and Ghanaian musical influences. I would also love to work my way into the Broadway scene. I earned a B.Mus. from Hartt and an MFA from CalArts. I’ve performed in various chamber ensembles and orchestras in California, New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts, and I’ve gigged and toured with various salsa bands, jazz bands and world ensembles. To quote Plato: “Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.” My principal instrument is percussion.
