I rejoined Local 802 due to the work I have been doing as a sub on Broadway. My musical goal in New York City is to continue performing in as many different, personally and professionally rewarding musical situations as I can. My most recent gig was second reed chair on the first national tour of the Tony Award-winning Broadway show “Memphis.” I got the gig from subbing on the show in New York and expressing my sincere interest in having the chair on the road. My principal instrument is tenor saxophone.

John Isley

I play upper woodwinds, primarily saxophones, clarinet, flute and piccolo. I also teach all these instruments, plus piano, to all ages in Manhattan and Westchester . I’m in New York City to play jazz, classical, and orchestra pit work for musicals. I attended the Hartt School of Music.

Stephanie Long

I joined Local 802 to gain access to more gigs, playing and teaching resources, benefits, and networking opportunities. My musical goal in New York City is to make a living performing and teaching music, and to perform the music I love as much as possible. Some of my recent gigs were: a jazz trio performance featured during an international film festival; a spot in a Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute band; and a classical guitar gig for a cocktail hour. Also, I got a record deal to do an album of original compositions for a jazz record label in Canada. I got my gigs through networking and sending press kits. My principal instrument is guitar.

Eric DiVito

I rejoined Local 802 for networking and opportunities. My goal is to surpass expenses with income from music. My most recent gigs were jazz tours in Korea and Taiwan. My main instruments are upright and electric bass.

Craig Akin

I recently earned my master’s degree and moved to New York City. I joined Local 802 because I want to be part of a vibrant musical environment and find opportunities to play. Growing up in small-town Vermont was a great place to develop my musical talents, but the opportunities to use those talents there were few and far between. My goal is to play regularly for shows on Broadway, where people from all over the world come excited to see and hear the best musical and theatrical performances the world has to offer. My former teacher, Daniel Grabois, was a regular in the scene, and I believe this is a great place to launch my career. My instrument is French horn.

Miles Miller

Last fall, I transferred from AFM Local 542 (Flint, Mich.) to Local 802. I joined Local 802 because I had a great experience working with the AFM local in Michigan. I developed many lasting personal relationships and learned a lot about the much-forgotten business end of the music industry. I want to continue that working relationship with the AFM in NYC. As a guitar player and electronic music producer, I’m hoping to continue playing live in the city and meeting some excellent players! The last show I played was with a jazz/funk group called Smooth Operation and we played at the historic Baker’s Keyboard Lounge in Detroit. My primary influences are eclectic: Buckethead, George Benson, Carl Craig, Bill Laswell and Theorem.

Brett Cimbalik

I joined Local 802 because I’ve been hired for a dozen or so on-camera musician film and T.V. gigs. Initially these were under SAG contracts (I’m also a SAG member); however, most of this work has switched to Local 802’s auspices. Though not yet a member, I nonetheless received union scale, and since dues are deducted from my pay and employers make contributions to Local 802’s pension, I figured it was time to join. My musical goal in New York City is work, work, work! In addition to the films, I’m a member of three orchestras and get pickup gigs for smaller ensembles, playing classical music mostly, but also jazz and pop and even salsa. I’ve started to compose, arrange and orchestrate as well and hope more of all these come my way. Last year a colleague recommended me for the inaugural concert of the Hellenic Music Foundation Orchestra. We have our third concert, a program of opera arias and scenes accompanied by orchestra, at the end of this month. My principal instrument is viola, but I can get by on cello, bassoon, clarinet and guitar as well. I’m also a professional singer and actor and Local 802 is my fourth union!
