‘Why we joined the union’

Meredith Moore1I joined Local 802 because I just moved to NYC from London and started getting work playing horn in some Broadway shows. When I was working in London, I was unable to join the British Musicians’ Union because I was not a British citizen and couldn’t receive the same benefits and protections that the MU offered my British colleagues. Needless to say, I am happy and proud to now be a member of Local 802. My goals in NYC are to extend my Broadway work, build a career performing in symphony, opera and ballet orchestras in NYC and throughout the Northeast, start a chamber music ensemble, and continue my solo endeavors and collaborations with contemporary composers. I’d also like to build a private studio of students. My most recent work in NYC has been subbing with “Phantom of the Opera” and “The King and I” and performing in solo recitals in the city. My primary instrument is French horn and I also have extensive experience playing the natural horn (classical and baroque).
