Your Union At Work For You

Volume 119, No. 5May, 2019

Each month in Allegro, we report on new or renewed Local 802 contracts that protect musicians with guaranteed union wages and benefits:

  • The Palm Restaurant Group, which operates establishments in over 20 cities in the U.S. and Mexico, signed a successor Music Services Agreement with Local 802 for the pianist Bryan Wells, who has been working consistently since 2000 at the company’s flagship NYC location, the Palm Westside, at 250 West 50th Street. The agreement included a cost of living increase and a pension increase.
  • A collective bargaining agreement has been signed between Local 802 and Sahara Plaza LLC for steady hotel engagements at the Plaza.
  • Children’s Orchestra Society, a classical music school which meets at the Long Island High School for the Arts, 239 Cold Spring Road in Syosset, extended its collective bargaining agreement with Local 802. The school’s executive director is Dr. Yeou-Cheng Ma, pediatrician and sister to famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma.

Make sure that you’re earning the pay and benefits you deserve! If you’re playing a job that you would like to be covered under a union contract, contact the Organizing Department at (212) 245-4802.
