THE PATH FORWARD

President's Report

Volume 126, No. 6June, 2026

Dan Point

Later this month, Local 802’s officers and delegates will travel to Ottawa for the 103rd AFM Convention. Between votes on several key resolutions and the election of international officers and members of the next International Executive Board, this year’s convention will be pivotal for the future of the Federation and Local 802. We welcome the addition of two new delegates to fill vacancies in our delegation to the 103rd AFM convention: Recording Vice President Sarah Haines and Executive Board Member Morris Kainuma. As the largest local in the AFM, it is crucial that Local 802 lead by example at the convention by presenting a unified front.

I encourage every member to read the resolutions carefully, which were printed in the May issue of the International Musician here

We continue to work to identify the most fiscally responsible path forward for our building at 322 W. 48th Street. In recent weeks, 802 leadership has continued to engage in discussions with lenders and the AFM. We plan to hold a town hall later this summer in July or August to update the membership on the state of the project and the best options on the table. Please keep your eyes peeled for email invitations, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions.
