Recording Department Collects More Than $17,000 From CBS

Volume CII, No. 11November, 2002

The Recording Department recovered $17,294.76 from CBS on Sept. 5. Almost 75 percent of the money was late penalties on re-use owed to 63 musicians who recorded the theme for the news show 48 Hours or the sports program Golf Leaders. The remainder was late penalties owed to 49 side musicians who performed with Ricky Martin, Nick and Aaron Carter, Jars of Clay, Glenn Lewis, Tammy Lynn Cochran, Jewel, RES or Chris Botti on the Early Show or the Saturday Early Show. Additionally, one musician was owed a late penalty for music on CBS News’ 9/11 Special.

The Recording Department is using a new computer program to better track re-use and penalty payments that are owed to the union (see October Allegro).

Members who were eligible for these late penalties will receive them when they pick up their recording checks at the union. If you have questions about the payments, contact Jay Schaffner (ext. 161) or David Sheldon (ext. 194).
